United defeated the reigning Premier League champions, Chelsea, in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Scholes told Sky Sports, when asked if his team-mates have added motivation to win silverware this season: “I think so, I hope so anyway.
“We were not that far off last year, one point off winning the league and we were disappointed to go out of the Champions League.
“So with a bit more determination this year, hopefully we can go that one step further.”
