United have just two points from three games, following their derby day defeat at Eastlands.
Fergie said: “10 years ago we could have handled that because we were always good in the second half of the season — now we are going to have to be. We’ve got ourselves an uphill fight now.
“The most important thing is that we get a win under our belts. So the game at home against Tottenham next Sunday is very important to us now.”
