The 35-year-old is hoping to join a Championship club this summer.
Marshall joined Villa on a one-year contract from Coventry last summer.
“I’ve enjoyed my time at Villa, but I’ve been released now and I’m looking for a new club,” Marshall told the Sunday Mercury.
“I still think I’ve got a few years left in me.
“I’m keeping my options open, but I want to stay at a high level and it would be nice to be in the Championship.”
