Martinez rules out Wigan exit

Martinez is determined to lead Wigan to new heights.

He said: “The club’s aims are more important than anything personal. I don’t have ambitions to manage in Spain. I have always been different in that.

“The short-term goals are to win against Aston Villa and stay up this season.

“Then to take Wigan to the next level and try to compete for a European place.”

Martinez admits that he is happy to work under Wigan owner Dave Whelan.

He added: “The game is changing for the time a manager is allowed to have in any project. The biggest strength we have is the stability the chairman brings.

“We are different to other clubs. It’s important we try to push this club to another level, to finish in the top 10 and develop the talented squad that we have.”
