Xavi has been the focal point of the successful Barcelona & Spain sides of recent years, and one of the front runners for this year’s Ballon D’Or.
Galliani said: “We were very close to Xavi. A few years ago we were just a millimetre from Xavi, a player I’ve always liked very much. We had spoken to his father and we were very close [to a deal], then he decided to extend his contract at Barcelona.”
