Moyes fears Aston Villa’s financial muscle

Moyes is keen on qualifying for the Champions League but is worried by the increased competition from Aston Villa.

The Toffees will face Villa at Goodison Park today.

Moyes said: “Aston Villa are coming up under the radar and the first thing they want to do is overtake Everton in the challenge to get into the top four.

“We pipped them to fifth last season but it was very close and they have assembled an impressive squad.

“They can afford to turn down £17million for a player, so this shows you where they are financially and I expect them to spend big again in the transfer window.

“We have lost some influential players and I am concerned about the numbers.

“But I don’t have any money to spend in the transfer window.

“I’ve spoken to Bill Kenwright and I know the situation.

“I’m hoping we can make some additions in January but it looks like being through the loan market.”
