Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier will miss crucial fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City after sustaining a calf injury during the victory over Wolves.

Despite initial optimism, further assessments have confirmed Trippier’s absence for the Premier League and FA Cup encounters, with an England squad participation also in doubt, according to the Daily Mail.

Trippier, instrumental this season with 11 assists, is targeted for a return against West Ham on March 30.

Tino Livramento is expected to fill in during Trippier’s recovery period.

Trippier said before knowing his scan results: “I just felt something in my calf and I don’t want to take any risks or anything.

“I had a good chat with the manager but I won’t know anything until [Monday]. My calf is feeling good but you know scan results can say anything, but most importantly I’m feeling positive.”
