Hovland impressed during a trial at United before Christmas.
The defender’s agent, Jim Solbakken, has confirmed that United are keen on signing Hovland.
Solbakken said: “If they had not been interested, he would not have been on his way over there now. Even trained with United two weeks before Christmas and is set for talks with the club and only time will tell what will happen.”
