Former boss Harry Redknapp left the club for Tottenham on Saturday.
“It would be nice. He’s been at the club for a while now, he knows the players and the staff, so if he gets the job then I’ll be happy,” the one-time England international told Sky Sports News.
“It didn’t go too well for me under Harry, but if Tony gets the job then things might go my way.
“He has a possible chance, he’s favourite now, but there’s a few other managers as well so it’s up to Peter Storrie to decide that – but hopefully he does get it.”
