Palermo are looking to strengthen their side ahead of the Europa League next season.
Papastathopoulos has been included in Greece’s 30-man provisional squad for the World Cup in South Africa.
The 21-year-old’s contract with Genoa is set to expire in June 2012 and the defender could cost Palermo around €6million.
