Everton are closing in on the England striker as we reported earlier today and are favourites to sign him.
Simpson said: “I’ve seen figures of £5m and £6m being bandied about as regards David’s value.
“Well they are a million miles away from what I value him at.
“We’re talking about a 22-year-old England striker here. Unless we get the right fee, I hope David will be with us next season.
“But if he’s going to go, I would like it settled as soon as possible so I’d know exactly what money we have to strengthen the squad.”
