Calderon sacked Capello as Real Madrid coach in the summer.
He told Spanish sports daily Marca: “I hope that he has good luck and succeeds well in his adventure with the English team.
“I’m sure that he’ll succeed because he’s a coach who thrives in tough situations, and currently England are not at their best.
“I’m sure that all will be well.”
He added: “The English national team suffers from the fact that most top English teams lack English players in their ranks.
“It’s a problem that concerns the football hierarchy in England, but despite it, I am confident that Capello will do well.”
