Gil Marin has revealed that Real president Florentino Perez even called him to make an offer for Forlan.
“Florentino called me personally to ask about Forlan,” Gil Marin was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.
“He explained that Real Madrid were prepared to meet his buy-out clause but not completely in money, also using players.
“They offered the Dutch players [Rafael van der Vaart, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben] and also [Javier] Saviola, [Gabriel] Heinze, Javi Garcia and [Alvaro] Negredo, but we could not upset the supporters.”
“We had offers for Forlan, [Sergio] Aguero, [Paulo] Assuncao and Simao that totalled almost €120 million,” he added.
