Redknapp pleased with debut win

Redknapp replaced Juande Ramos as Spurs manager last night.

Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent scored the goals for Spurs.

“I thought while I’m here let’s have a go,” he told Sky Sports. “We haven’t got time to sit around.

“I just said you’re good players. You’ve obviously not been performing to be in the position you’re in. To get two points means you’ve not been playing well.

“Go out and play and let’s pass the ball well. We did that well and three points today was the key thing. If you don’t do that today, the rest of the week looks very hard.

“I learnt an awful lot but I know them all anyway. Modric – what a footballer, you can give him the ball anywhere and he will receive it.

“People might look at him and not want to give it to him as he’s got people around him, but he likes that.

“He gets in the right areas and is a fantastic footballer. David Bentley too showed fantastic quality for the goal.

“Top class, it was Beckham – well Bentley – but it was top, top class.”

He continued: “You see today the difference he makes when he plays. What a player. Imagine if he didn’t have a dodgy knee.

“He really is fantastic. He’s strong, has pace, can head it, is physical – an international class player.

“But Corluka alongside him was excellent today though and Jonathan Woodgate is a top class centre-half.

“We’re okay there if everybody stays fit. I just think we have to get Woodgate or King on the pitch. If we can get them together great, but if one of them plays we are much stronger.”
