Redknapp replaced Juande Ramos as Tottenham manager last weekend.
Wright told the Sun: “Harry was the perfect appointment for Tottenham.
“He’ll sort the defence out and will motivate the players, steady the ship and get the fans going.
“I have to admire Daniel Levy. He makes decisions and if they’re not right he’ll go the other way.
“He’s made the right decision for Tottenham.
“I didn’t think they’d do anything until the January transfer window .
“I thought Spurs would possibly bring in another couple of players and see if the form under Ramos had changed.
“But obviously Ramos couldn’t do it, he couldn’t get the team motivated.
“Drastic action had to be taken and Levy took it and getting someone like Harry in will get the players going.”
