Sheffield Utd boss slams Tottenham

Warnock said: “Unfortunately, we could not afford to match Fulham’s deal.

“The problem Michael had at Spurs was that they wanted too many big name players.

“I think he was good enough, but didn’t really get the opportunities. The board wanted ‘names’ who I don’t think were as good as Michael anyway.

“‘I spoke to Michael and told him he was better off going to Fulham to get some games. I did speak to him again when he wasn’t in the team, but he is back now and doing well.

“I don’t think Chris Coleman would let him go, especially with Jimmy Bullard out.

“But I will always have a special place in my heart for Michael – he played a big part in a memorable season for us, getting to two Cup semi-finals and the play-off final. And I’m not surprised he has gone on to do well – he’s Fulham’s key player.”
