23 year-old Bent has already played 3 times for the national side – starting twice and coming on once as substitute – and will hope that moving to the Premiership from The Championship will give him a better chance of impressing Steve McClaren.
The deal, for up to six years, is half as much again as the previous club record of £11m for Sergei Rebrov.
