Spurs star rues Euro snub

Van der Vaart featured for Spurs in the qualifiers against Hearts, but was left out of the club’s squad for the group stages after he suffered a torn hamstring last month against Manchester City.

Van der Vaart has made rapid recovery and should Spurs make it through the group stages the Dutchman could be one of up to three more players the club can add to their Europa League squad.

“In England they are not interested in the Europa League – only the Premiership,” van der Vaart said the Sun.

“But I would have loved to play in the Europa League. It would have helped me regain some rhythm.”

He added: “I still think it’s a peculiar situation.

“Spurs could at least have consulted me. Anyway it’s up to the point of no return. I will be focusing on the game against Liverpool.

“I’m pretty convinced I will be fit by then thanks to Dick van Toorn.”
