The Sun says Van der Meyde told friends in Holland: “I was fit to play against Arsenal. I had played a practice match two days before that and didn’t have any bother at all. The facts are simply that I wasn’t selected for the group. That’s the manager’s right.
“But he doesn’t have to be telling downright lies. My situation here isn’t easy because I seem to be playing only in the home matches. I just want people to be honest and tell me why I have to sit in the stand.”
