Boothroyd said: “I was disappointed not to sign Collins, because I think this is the best place for him.
“But if the guy does not want to come and thinks he can do better [than Watford], then I understand that.
“I do not have any animosity towards anyone. We are bottom of the league, 10 points adrift with two games in hand.
“I can understand why someone would say: ‘I am not sure about that.’
“You have to be brave to want to come here, and you have to want to be part of something that will be good for your future.
“But not everyone sees it like that. Players might see things in the short-term, rather than the medium-term or the long-term.”
