Spector scored two of the Hammers’ four goals in the 4-0 win over the Premier League leaders in the FA Cup.
The defender was handed a chance in midfield by West Ham boss Avram Grant on Tuesday.
“Playing in a different position helped, I was able to get forward a bit more,” Spector told Sky Sports.
“It’s been disappointing and frustrating, but I’ve been working hard and just hoped for the best.
“I think we went out there and decided we were going to work hard and give it a go.
“I think we were probably the underdogs going into this game, but we knew if we worked hard and stuck together we could get a result, and that’s what happened.”
