Smith is in talks with Cardiff City, about a possible loan move to the Championship side.
Wise told Sky Sports News: “We’d love Alan Smith, he’s a wonderful player. If it’s a possibility, then lovely.
“It’d be a boost for the team, let alone the fans and the club. We’re talking about a quality player here who has done it at all levels.
“Of course, I would love him here.
“We have to wait and see. We’ve only just found out so I’m sure there will be 20 other clubs interested in Alan Smith, maybe other teams in the Premiership.
“Whether we can get him I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.”
