Wright hails Chelsea ace Anelka

Wright said in his column in the Sun: “Some people thought Avram Grant was mad for signing him but it could prove to be a touch of genius.

“I’ve always felt Nicolas could be the best striker in the Premier League and one of the best in the world.

“He’s the top flight’s top scorer with 10 goals and I’d love it if he finally proved he is real class, rather than just a pretty good Premier League striker.”

He continued: “Didier Drogba probably thinks he’s going to be able to breeze back into the team. I want Nicolas to put Drogba in his place and effectively say ‘No, you’re not walking back into the side’.

“Due to his own fine record, Drogba probably thinks he can hold Chelsea to ransom — but Anelka doing so well will also give Phil Scolari a big selection headache.

“Personally, I’d still like to see them both play in a 4-4-2.

“That’s one hell of a strike partnership and they would complement each other so well.

“Maybe feeding off Drogba would see Nicolas move up to that next level.”
