Wright-Phillips re-joined Manchester City in August from Chelsea.
He told Sky Sports: “Yes (City can challenge Chelsea in the future), most definitely. But it is not just something that is going to happen overnight.
“In the future it is something that is possible and likely. The club – in my eyes, and I think in the fans’ and the owners’ – can become a massive club.
“City can go a long, long way and contend for a lot of silverware.”
