Rooney suffered a horror head injury following a clash of heads with team-mate Phil Jones in training.
The Sunday Mirror reports that Rooney has had 10 stitches inserted and is out of the clash with rivals Liverpool.
Rooney is also expected to miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.
