Man Utd boss backs Neville for England return

The United veteran has been out of the England squad for almost three years, but could be called-up for the squad to face Brazil in a friendly later this month.

Liverpool ace Glen Johnson who is a regular on the England right-back is currently struggling with a calf muscle injury.

“I am not surprised at all,” said Fergie in The Independent on reports that Neville could be handed a call-up.

“He [Capello] has not got great options at right-back. Gary offers experience and his quality has not been diminished.

“His performance level has been very good when he’s come into the team. He has not lost momentum, rhythm or energy.

“He has had a hard time in the last three years with injuries. He has survived because he is Gary Neville. He has a great desire to carry on.”
