Villa joined La Liga champions Barcelona last week.
“It is a shame that Villa has gone, but it is similar to what happened with [Gaizka] Mendieta and Claudio Lopez. There are phases in which the clubs have it in their interests to sell,” said Canizares to AMUNT.
“And in this case the sale has been for the good of the economic situation. In any case, Villa is not a young player, and it was the time to sell. I think that all three parties have come out as winners from the deal.
“It seems like the end of the world, but life goes on. I think that the fans have also understood the motivation behind the sale, and with wise decisions the club will always be a big one. Selling Villa was a necessity, but with hard work the club will never be a minnow.
“The fans should relax, because Valencia are still in a position to do good business despite the economic burden. If Villa isn’t getting the goals then someone else will, and they will be competitive again. There is no better team in Europe than Valencia, and I mean that sincerely.”
