The 25-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The former Manchester United defender is yet to be offered a new deal with the Black Cats.
“I’d like to be offered a new contract,” Bardsley told The Journal.
“I heard the manager has said he is worried I won’t sign one because I’m not guaranteed a place in the side, but I’m a Sunderland player and my only aim is to keep playing like I am at the moment and we shall see what happens.
“I do enjoy living up here. I’m really settled. I’m enjoying it, but we’ll have to see whether anything is offered and we’ll take it from there.”
