He said: “National football is boring. Club football has moved forward and national football has gone backwards.
“I’m not the fault for England’s frustrations. It’s a vicious circle because your expectation level is very high and when England go to the World Cup, you expect England to win it.
“You cannot go overboard in February about a friendly against Spain who have a good team.
“England have good players – Dyer, Carrick, Rooney. You have to accept you can lose sometimes.”
