Atletico Madrid’s Torres welcomes criticism

Torres said: “From all the critics, you can draw some positives from their comments. I know that the day there is no criticism of me, is a day I should be worrying, because it means I have no value.

“Personally, I believe the criticism has helped me improve.”

Torres said, when asked about being a role-model for children in Madrid: “I have never wanted to be a reference for anyone. it’s most important that kids enjoy their football, that they’re not obsessed. They should see soccer as a game because soon enough a time will come when they realise it’s not. Unfortunately, nowadays soccer is a business.

“Personally, I can’t see myself as a first team coach, but I’d like to work with juniors. I think that would suit me well. But I’m still too young to seriously be thinking about coaching options.”
