Brighton have confirmed the signing of Brazilian defender Igor Julio.

The Seagulls have acquired the 25-year-old from Italian side Fiorentina in a £17million deal.

Julio has signed a four-year contract with Brighton and will link up with his news teammates next week.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi told the club’s official website: “Igor is another important player who can help us in a crucial position within the team; where the play starts.”

Julio is expected to replace Levi Colwill, who has returned to Chelsea after spending last season on loan at Brighton.
