Manchester United and Newcastle United are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Barcelona wonderkid Pau Cubarsi this summer.

The 17-year-old defender has a release clause in his contract which will allow him to leave the Catalan giants for around €10million this summer.

Barcelona are keen for the youngster to sign a new contract with the club, but talks have been challenging after the centre-back broke into the club’s senior squad.

Cubarsi has made six appearances for Barcelona under coach Xavi Hernandez and is rated as an important player for the future at Camp Nou.

But Barcelona face a challenge to keep him at the club beyond this summer, as Manchester United and Newcastle United are both ready to pay his release clause fee, according to our sources.
