The 34-year-old’s contract with Pompey expired at the end of last season, but the former Arsenal star is keen to stay at the club.
Pompey boss Steve Cotterill said: “I think he wants to stay. With a bit of luck we will have him in the team to face Coventry on the opening day of the season.”
