The Sun says Valencia are ready to sell the 21-year-old for around £16.5million next summer.
Mata is currently on a £10,000-a-week contract that expires in 2012 and the winger has turned down an improved offer from Valencia.
Mata’s father and agent Juan Snr told The Sun: “We want Valencia to recognise the kid’s true quality, and it’s not only a matter of money.”
Juan Jnr added: “This matter is all down to the club and my agent. Benitez is a big coach but I just want to concentrate on my game without any distractions.”
