Man Utd aiming to sign a new striker

United have already spent almost £50million on midfielder Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves.

But Sir Alex Ferguson also want to bring in another forward and has been linked with Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov, Atletico Madrid ace Fernando Torres and Bolton’s Nicolas Anelka in recent weeks.

Gill said: “We have looked at it and I wouldn’t rule out trying to strengthen in another area which is a striker.

“We’ll see what happens. We’re not desperate.

“But if we felt it was someone who would improve the squad we would look to do that.

“If anything else does happen then it would be in the striking department.”

He added: “There will always be changes but we do have a big squad and there should be players leaving.

“We’ve got some great players coming back from loan spells. But we want competition for places.

“We are not resting on our laurels and we are looking to improve the quality of the team.”
