Ferguson disclosed a trick he played on Allardyce at a post-match meeting between the two.
“Big Sam bought me a lovely bottle of wine when we were playing a few years back on my birthday,” Ferguson revealed on Monday night’s BBC Radio 5 Live.
“His kit manager brought it in the morning wrapped up in some paper, so I opened it and replaced it with a bottle of Ribena.
“We saw each other later and he said that’s for you to open later but I said no, I’ll open it now and drink it with you.
“When he opened the bottle he ran after the kit man, shouting. I thought he was going to kill him.”
