Strootman has impressed for both PSV Eindhoven and Holland this season.
The 22-year-old has appeared in ten of Holland’s last 11 games.
The Sunday Mirror reports that United scouts have watched Strootman in action 12 times in recent weeks.
United have previously signed Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam from PSv Eindhoven.
