The Champions League group stage draw took place in Monaco on Thursday.
United were drawn in Group C, which will see them play Benfica, Basel and Otelul Galati. The group has already been branded as the weakest of the Champions League group stage.
Ferdinand wrote on his Twitter: “Decent draw in the Champions League. Benfica is a tough place to go from past experience, great history between our two clubs.
“Basel and Galati here we come!”
