The 35-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season and reports have suggested Scholes plan to retire.
A source told the Daily Star: “United still feel Scholes has plenty to offer and, as it stands, want him to play on.
“They know they need to bring the average age of the squad down but also understand the importance of Scholes on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
