Premier League preview – Week 6

Arsenal v Chelsea

Key Battle: Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta will hope to keep countryman Juan Mata quiet and then provide the first pass for many of his team’s own attacks

Player to Watch: Santi Cazorla has been superb in the early weeks of this season and he will hope to continue his brilliant form.

Talking Point: A key test of both team’s title credentials, will this game be a cagey one?

Prediction: 0-0

Everton v Southampton

Key Battle: Daniel Fox will have his work cut out to keep quiet whichever Everton forward starts, Nikica Jelavic or Kevin Mirallas

Player to Watch: Rickie Lambert was brilliant against Aston Villa and will hope to cause Everton’s tight defence problems

Talking Point: Southampton have played quite open attacking football this season but will that leave them exposed here?

Prediction: 3-1

Fulham v Manchester City

Key Battle: Dimitar Berbatov has made a superb start to life at Fulham and can cause Manchester City’s leaky defence and Joleon Lescott in particular all kinds of problems.

Player to Watch: City will need David Silva at his best if they are to get back to winning ways at a difficult ground to visit

Talking Point: Manchester City have endured a miserable time of late, conceding goals aplenty and have not won since labouring to victory over QPR at the start of the month. How will they cope against vibrant Fulham?

Prediction: 2-1

Norwich v Liverpool

Key Battle: Luis Suarez will hope to get change out of Sebastien Bassong and kick start Liverpool’s faltering campaign at Carrow Road.

Player to Watch: Nuri Sahin scored his first Liverpool goals against West Brom in the Carling Cup and can continue that here.

Talking Point: Five games without a win, surely this is the game in which Brendan Rodgers’ side get off the mark in the league?

Prediction: 0-4

Reading v Newcastle

Key Battle: Kaspars Gorkss will have his hands full trying to keep quiet Newcastle’s forward line, in particular Papiss Cisse after he got back on the scoresheet against Manchester United in the Carling Cup.

Player to Watch: Hatem ben Arfa has been one of the best players in the opening weeks of the season and has dragged a stuttering Newcastle with him

Talking Point: Reading have made a slow start to life in the Premier League – will they be ideal opposition for Newcastle?

Prediction: 0-3

Stoke v Swansea

Key Battle: Dean Whitehead against Michu in midfield is likely to be a classic battle of brawn against brains in the centre of the pitch.

Player to Watch: With Nathan Dyer out, much could rely on Wayne Routledge’s ability to create for Swansea here.

Talking Point: A classic clash between attack and defence awaits, but Swansea have looked brittle defensively in recent weeks and a similar lack of intensity to that showed against Everton will be exposed by a Stoke side looking for a first win of the season.

Prediction: 2-0

Sunderland v Wigan

Key Battle: Steven Fletcher has been in fine form since signing for Sunderland and will be up against Gary Caldwell as he hopes to continue his goalscoring run.

Player to Watch: Franco di Santo is the main goalscoring threat for Wigan, who will look to counter attack ruthlessly against their rivals here.

Talking Point: The signs point to a home win but Wigan are good on the break and their possession style could cause Sunderland problems.

Prediction: 0-2

Manchester United v Tottenham

Key Battle: Key in this game could be the midfield battle, which Tottenham will look to win through Sandro, up against former Spur Michael Carrick

Player to Watch: Wayne Rooney made his comeback for Manchester United this weekend and he could be a man to watch here.

Talking Point: Tottenham have an awful record at Manchester United but have also endured rotten luck here in recent years. Can that change this weekend?

Prediction: 1-1

Aston Villa v West Brom

Key Battle: An interesting battle between two well organised teams, Christian Benteke could cause problems for the West Brom defence and Gareth MacAuley.

Player to Watch: Romelu Lukaku, if he starts, could be a key threat for West Brom, and may look to outshine fellow Belgian forward Christian Benteke on the opposing team.

Talking Point: A tight game should be played out between two defensively solid teams, with Villa in the process of change. They showed superb form away to Manchester City in the week and that may be the difference.

Prediction: 2-1

QPR v West Ham

Key Battle: In a game between two limited teams the main battle may be who wins aerial challenges between Carlton Cole and Ryan Nelsen.

Player to Watch: QPR will hope to get their campaign off and running here and will look to Bobby Zamora against his former club to do just that.

Talking point: Can QPR overcome a stubborn West Ham team to finally get their first win of the season?

Prediction: 1-2
