Queiroz has worked closely with Rooney as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Rooney has made an impressive start to the season for United.
Queiroz said: “I think this season will be very important for Rooney in terms of goalscoring.
“He is playing further forward now and is going to have a lot more opportunities to score.
“I would not rule out that he finishes the season as the top scorer in the Premier League.”
