The Dutch star wants to double his current £40,000-a-week contract to £80,000-a-week.
But the club remain concerned due to his injury problems in his five seasons at the club.
It is believed the parties could agree to a new deal worth around £65,000-a-week.
The new four-year extension would keep him at the club until 2013.
