West Ham have seen a £25million bid for Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse rejected by the Championship side.

The Sun reports that the Saints want closer to £40million for their highly-rated set-piece specialist.

Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox told The Sun: “Have we rejected the bid? Yep.

“Is there another offer? Not as I know.

“I think when a club makes an offer, very rarely is it their full and final offer.

“If we get the right offer, we will consider it. Consider is an important word because we don’t have to sell.

“We’re a big football club. We’re not going to allow players to leave if we don’t feel it’s a win-win.”

West Ham have cash to splash after letting Declan Rice join London rivals Arsenal in a £105million deal.

The Hammers have also been linked with the likes of Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and Manchester United ace Scott McTominay.
