Scholes’ current contract is set to expire at the end of the season and the 36-year-old has been promised a job on the United backroom staff, but Ferguson is keen for the veteran to stay on the pitch for another year.
“I want Scholesy to stay but he is such a proud person,” said Ferguson.
“He wants to play every game. That’s what he’s like and I fully understand that.
“But if I can get him to buy into the way I’ve been using him, sparing him in some games and using him in important games, he has fantastic value for us.”
