Burnley are reportedly interested in Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez.

Fernandez impressed on loan at Preston last season and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

Reports have suggested that Preston wanted the young Spaniard to return on loan, but now Sky Sports claims Vincent Kompany’s Burnley are zeroing in on the defender.

The 20-year-old is behind Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the pecking order at Old Trafford and it is believed United could allow the youngster to leave on loan.

Fernandez stated earlier this summer that he would be keen to stay at Manchester United.

“Hopefully I can stay in the United first team,” Fernandez told Spanish media outlet AS.

“If it doesn’t happen and I have to go out on loan, then keep working hard and keep growing. I am 20 years old and what I want is to play. But if it can be at United, much better.

“I have been called [by] great Championship teams. And Preston wanted to continue counting on me. But in case of going out on loan, I would say that the time has come to go to a top league. Not to say directly the Premier League or La Liga.”
