Vidic has failed to recover from the illness that saw him miss Saturday’s Premier League win at West Ham.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is struggling with his injury-hit defence. The list of defenders out includes Gary Neville, West Brom, Rio Ferdinand, John O’Shea, Jonny Evans and Fabio and Rafael Da Silva.
Patrice Evra is the only orthodox defender left in Sir Alex’s squad and he will be forced to play Michael Carrick in central defence and continue to play Darren Fletcher on the right-back.
