Premier League preview – Week 18

Chelsea v Fulham

Key Battle: Fulham were appalling against Man Utd and will look to bounce back. Philippe Senderos will want to show an improved performance but he may be up against old foe Didier Drogba.

Player to Watch: Juan Mata’s creativity could be key for Chelsea to break down Fulham’s rearguard.

Talking Point: Can Fulham bounce back from their defeat to United? Or will Chelsea’s revival improve?

Prediction: 2-1

Bolton v Newcastle

Key Battle: Bolton bounced back well against Blackburn but will have to watch Demba Ba. Gary Cahill will have his work cut out.

Player to Watch: Haris Vukcik looked good in the defeat to West Brom and may be a key player for Newcastle.

Talking Point: Can Bolton build on the Blackburn win, or can Newcastle register a first win in seven?

Prediction: 1-4

Liverpool v Blackburn

Key Battle: Luis Suarez continues to battle and play well despite the FA charge against him and he will be up against Chris Samba, a tough physical opponent on Monday.

Player to Watch: Charlie Adam missed a penalty against Wigan and will want to get back to his best form.

Talking Point: Surely Blackburn can’t arrest their awful run at Anfield, right?

Prediction: 3-0

Man Utd v Wigan

Key Battle: Antonio Valencia has been increasingly influential of late and he will be up against his former team hoping to cause havoc.

Player to Watch: Franco di Santo has been impressive of late for Wigan and United may have to watch the Italian.

Talking Point: Wigan have taken a point from Chelsea and Liverpool – can they make it three in three against the big guns?

Prediction: 2-0

Sunderland v Everton

Key Battle: In typical Martin O’Neill style, Sunderland are looking to use crosses to the big man, in Nicklas Bendtner, and he will pose all sorts of problems for Phil Jagielka

Player to Watch: Sebastien Larsson has been Sunderland’s best player and he will hope to shine

Talking Point: Two wins in two for O’Neill so far, but against poor teams. Can they do it against a half decent side?

Prediction: 0-1

West Brom v Man City

Key Battle: Peter Odemwingie has been superb of late and he will hope to take advantage of a Man City defence which has been leaky most of the season.

Player to Watch: David Silva has been the player City have relied upon. If West Brom can stop him, they can spring a shock.

Talking Point: City have been unstoppable most of the season – but they are susceptible to the counter attack, something West Brom excel at. Surely not a shock?

Prediction: 2-1

Stoke v Aston Villa

Key Battle: Expect, long direct balls and plenty of physical challenges. Ryan Shawcross and Richard Dunne could have a field day.

Player to Watch: One of the very few players on the pitch who will have any skill, Charles N’Zogbia could be key.

Talking Point: Not a game for the neutrals, but after an improved display against Arsenal can Villa take anything? And with so many goals conceded from corners, how will they cope against a huge Stoke team?

Prediction: 3-0

Arsenal v Wolves

Key Battle: Arsenal have been in great form, the defeat to City apart, but Gervinho and Theo Walcott have looked tired of late. Robin van Persie will be needed at his best against Roger Johnson.

Player to Watch: Aaron Ramsey has been quiet and effective, but has not delivered the fantasy and imagination of a Cesc Fabregas. How will he do against Wolves?

Talking Point: Can Wolves register a shock and keep themselves away from the relegation zone?

Prediction: 4-0

Swansea v QPR

Key Battle: Joey Barton will have his work cut out against the technically superior Leon Britton in central midfield.

Player to Watch: Heidar Helguson has been a surprise this season, scoring crucial goals for QPR.

Talking Point: Swansea have a superb home record – can they keep it going?

Prediction: 3-0

Norwich v Tottenham.

Key Battle: Grant Holt has been superb for Norwich of late, and he will cause Tottenham’s defenders all kinds of problems, and Younes Kaboul will have a tough day.

Player to Watch: Emmanuel Adebayor will need to be at his best as Tottenham cope without Aaron Lennon and possibly Gareth Bale.

Talking Point: Tottenham will need to win games like this to mount a title charge. How will they do?

Prediction: 3-2
