Weekend round up – Serie A title challengers drop points, Chelsea and United in thrilling draw

Juventus were held to a surprising 0-0 home draw by Siena, to remain one point clear of AC Milan with a match in hand. Milan were also held by the same score against Napoli. But Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off and will miss crucial games against third placed Udinese, who lost 3-2 at Fiorentina, and Juve.

Further down, Lazio in fourth lost 3-2 at Genoa whilst Inter were thrashed 4-0 by a resurgent Roma.

Palermo beat Atalanta 2-1 and Parma beat Chievo 2-1. Novara and Cagliari, as well as Lecce and Bologna, all drew 0-0.

In France, Paris St Germain beat Evian 3-1 after having gone behind to remain three points clear of Montpellier, who beat Brest 1-0 to maintain their charge. In third, Lille were forced to wait to play St Etienne after their game was postponed, but they stay ahead of Marseille and Lyon, who played out a thrilling 2-2 draw.

In England, Chelsea and Man Utd played out a thrilling 3-3 draw but Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Fulham means they are two points clear at the top.

Tottenham play Liverpool on Monday but they remain clear of Chelsea, whilst Newcastle are in fifth after beating Aston Villa 2-1. Arsenal got back to form in style with a 7-1 win over Blackburn, whilst lower down Sunderland beat Stoke 1-0 and Norwich won 2-0 against Bolton. Swansea won 2-1 at West Brom.

In Spain, Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Real Sociedad kept them on the heels of Real Madrid, who were 1-0 winners at Getafe to remain seven points clear at the top. Atletico Madrid held Valencia 0-0. Levante drew 1-1 at home to Racing Santander, whilst Espanyol in fifth played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Athletic Bilbao.

Sevilla manager Marcelino was sacked after they lost 2-1 at home to Villarreal. Osasuna’s Champions League bid is intact after a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijon.

In Germany, previous leaders Bayern Munich were held 1-1 at Hamburg, meaning Borussia Dortmund went top after beating Nurnberg 2-0. Schalke drew 1-1 at home to Mainz to stay third whilst Borussia Moenchengladbach in fourth also drew 0-0 to keep up their Champions League push. Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart drew 2-2 whilst Werder Bremen drew by the same score with Freiburg.

Leaders Panathianaikos lost 1-0 at Levadiakos whilst Olympiakos closed the gap with a 2-0 win at PAOK. Fenerbache beat Besiktas 2-0 in the Turkish league Istanbul derby, whilst Galatasaray won 2-1 at Gaziantetspor. Genclerbirlgi won 3-2 at Kayserispor.

Leaders Basel drew 0-0 with FC Sion in Switzerland, whilst Young Boys beat Servette 3-1. FC Zurich and FC Luzern drew 1-1 and Grasshopers lost 1-0 to FC Thun.

Last time out in Portugal, Porto lost their long unbeaten run after a 3-1 defeat to Gil Vicente to end their 55 match unbeaten run one before Benfica’s all time record. Leaders Benfica beat Feireinse 2-1.
